Students will read inspiring, age-appropriate examples in each genre and participate in teacher-facilitated group discussions and activities, learning about the important tools great writers use to build imaginary worlds, create complex characters, and tell compelling stories. Students will work individually to create their own pieces in each genre and experience what a "workshop process" is like; giving helpful feedback to their peers and practicing how to work collaboratively and communicate kindly. At the end of the semester students will create a "portfolio" of the work they are most proud of.
